787-9 simbrief - KJFK to NZAA

Hi guys, great job by the way and this route is clearly pushing all boundaries being the longest 787-9 route IRL.

However, the only way I can get this route to work in simbrief with ETOPS included is with a max passenger load of 12 passengers, obviously not realistic economically.

Is this an issue with the updated simbrief profile, or is it a case that Qantas and ANZ have modifications to their aircraft that fly this route to be compatible.

    Keep up the good work

    1. Hi,

This is a new challenge. We had to readjust for the other 17-hour flights. But this one is different.
Nor the A350 and the 777-300 can do this flight using Simbrief.

This is beyond our comprehension. Try to get the real-world loading data for this flight and show it to us to see what the deal is.
I'm 100% I can find out, but you'll have to give me some time unless you do it first.

If you can remove cargo weight successfully, then you'll be fine.

Thank you for your time in looking into this.

You have managed to get a lot closer than I did which raises a few questions my end if I may.

Are you adding in a fuel factor, and if so what is this so I can replicate please?

Will the BA simbrief profile have updated my end just by logging into simbrief or is there some action needed on my part to make sure I have the updated version as of may/25

You have managed to get 215 passengers on there, ANZ have stated they sell a max of 180 seats on the route so just by quick maths that may solve the issue immediately with your route.

If you have any other tips as to how you replicated the route above that would be much appreciated.

          Thank you again

              Hi,

I just processed the flight plan without any manual input. All inputs were in AUTO.
The SB profile was updated, I believe, 2 months ago. Some pilots wanted to fly these long routes. One of them was from Texas to Australia. I can't recall. But it was a United airline flight.

My only tips would be to utilize less than 180 passengers. (Normally I've been told these flights fly medium to light). And try to get the freight light to zero. You need basically 4,000kg of fuel. I think if you continue to play with the configurations.

I get closer when I choose CONTINGENCY FUEL to AUTO.

Then with 180 passengers. The previous results were with 0 passengers.

You can also select the one with less distance.

I'm thinking these flights aren't as black and white as people might think. There's so many elements playing a massive role. Try to learn more about how to use Simbrief and when you get the green light with tell me what you did.

Still playing around, but have managed to get a green light.

Cost index of 5, max passengers 139

That’s obviously with 13 tonnes of fuel remaining on landing, etops planning and legal reserves make it very tight.

I have heard strange reports of ANZ re-filing flight plans mid flight as this is one of the ways to reduce etops fuel. It is beyond my understanding and sounds a little like witch craft.

Maybe the above is how they manage to get 180 passengers on board.

Either way, we know it works, and after all, it is a sim and we can pretend we have 180 customers in the back.

Keep up the good work guys, it’s going to be very rare I get the chance to fly for 17hours, but was worth a good little stress test.

              1. Hey, Johnson,

                GREAT JOB!

Last time I checked, witches fly on brooms.

Well, the fact that you managed it, please provide us with a copy of the loading and fuel planning.
