MSFS 2020 liveries – future plans and clarification
Hi Francis,
I hope you’re doing well. It’s been a while since we last spoke on the forum about the liveries, especially for the iniBuilds A320neo V2 and potentially the LVFR aircraft. I wanted to reach out again because I’m honestly a bit confused about the current situation and direction.
As you know, I’ve been quite active on the forum, sending references and suggestions for new liveries and following your team’s work closely. I own many of your products and I really appreciate the quality and realism you bring to the simulator, which is also why I was so interested in the potential upcoming liveries we discussed.
When we last spoke, I understood that the focus had shifted mainly to MSFS 2024 because many users were moving there and because aircraft like the A320neo V2 have different models between 2020 and 2024, making it difficult to release the same liveries on both platforms. That made sense at the time.
However, after purchasing and testing MSFS 2024 myself on Xbox, I have to say that the simulator still feels far from stable enough for many of us to fully switch. Performance and stability are still significantly behind MSFS 2020, and from what I can see in the community, a large portion of users are continuing to fly mainly on 2020 for now.
This is why I wanted to ask you a few things in a clear way:
– Are the liveries that were discussed for MSFS 2020 definitively cancelled, or just paused?
– Some of the liveries that were being prepared haven’t appeared on 2024 either — were they abandoned or are they still planned?
– Is there any chance that you might still consider releasing liveries for MSFS 2020 alongside 2024, at least for aircraft that remain heavily used there like the iniBuilds A320neo V2?
I completely understand the technical challenges and the need to look toward the future with 2024. At the same time, it would be a real shame if all the liveries that were discussed and prepared for 2020 simply disappeared, especially considering how many of us are still flying there daily, particularly on Xbox where 2024 still has a long way to go.
I’m writing this with genuine interest and respect for your work, not as criticism. Your liveries add a huge amount of realism and immersion, and many of us truly value what you and your team create. I just wanted to better understand the situation and whether there is still hope for the projects we talked about.
Thanks again for everything you do and for always being open to discussion with the community.
All the best,
Francesco
Francis @LeadDeveloper2026-02-15 11:58:22.808ZHi Francesco,
I'll do my best to write something coherent as these days are non-stop work between flight sim and personal time...
I really appreciate you for being consistent.
According to our sales data, MSFS 2024 accounts for 85% of our sales.
More people are switching to '24. Other developing companies have been showcasing their sales graphs too, and they're the same. The numbers don't lie. And no matter how many people post online that they prefer 2020 and will stay there, the only way to really see where to focus is to look at everyone's platform sales.About releasing liveries alongside 2020, I won't be able to proceed with this. We saw the shift, and by summer, most likely 90% of the people will be in 2024.
The other livery hangars that never made it to MSFS 2024 are because I worked with 3 other artists, and they declined to update the hangars for free. And so I didn't want to charge anyone any upgrade fee. Why did I start acquiring other artists? There was a demand and I wanted to fulfill it. When the NEOv2 came out, I stopped painting liveries on my own and focused on the 787 project, while having other people who could do a good job under my supervision paint these new aircraft models. Honestly, it's more consistent if I avoid other livery creators, as it also costs me time and money, and the back-and-forth with fixes makes it hard to get updates from them.
The only artist we'll stay with is Elysium Designs. She was able to create all these 2024 liveries under my new guidelines, and I can make updates myself. The plan right now is to continue making liveries using the best format available for 2024. I'm going to release my own hangars as the other painters are out. I've taken notes on your concepts and ideas, and I would rather keep them confidential to avoid sharing them with other devs in the marketplace. What's coming from me this year? airliners and prop planes. But I'm interested in going into more detail, meaning I'll handle as many details as possible and include elements the defaults lack.
As for my own and other people's MSFS console/PC experience, I spend 99% of my time flying in MSFS 2024 on Xbox, which works flawlessly for me. It's working great, and it will continue to improve. MSFS2020 is better than ever, but it took them too long to restore a good balance of performance.
My explanation might be all over the place, but I hope it covers some of your questions.

Hi Francis,
Thank you for taking the time to reply despite your busy schedule — I appreciate the transparency about the sales data and your current direction.
I completely understand that business decisions are driven by numbers, and if 2024 represents the majority of sales, it makes sense to focus there. That part is clear.
However, what I’m struggling to understand is something slightly different.
If the strategic shift is fully toward MSFS 2024, I would expect to see a strong and consistent output there — both in terms of quantity and continuity. Yet, from a user perspective, it feels like many of the liveries we discussed months ago have not materialized on either platform.
For example:
– Some important liveries from the 2020 A320neo packages have not been carried over to 2024 (Brussels Airlines Tomorrowland, Discover Airlines, Lufthansa D-AINC, etc.).
– At the same time, certain 2024 releases contain inconsistencies compared to real-world configurations. A specific example is Lufthansa D-AIBD, which in reality operates in the new livery with the raccoon mask cockpit configuration, while in the sim it appears in the old scheme.
– Several Lufthansa airframes that were previously available in 2020 are no longer present in 2024 packages. From the outside, this creates the impression not of a transition, but of a discontinuity — where part of the 2020 catalogue was left behind without being fully replaced in 2024.
I’m not saying this as criticism, but as someone who genuinely follows fleet accuracy and realism closely. If the goal is to focus entirely on 2024 and raise the level of detail even further, I fully support that direction — but I would love to understand whether:
– The missing liveries are planned for future 2024 updates,
– Or if they have been permanently discontinued,
– And whether fleet accuracy corrections (like the Lufthansa example above) are something you intend to refine over time.My concern isn’t about 2020 vs 2024 anymore — it’s about coherence and continuity in the catalogue.
I remain genuinely interested in supporting your work with references and real-world fleet data if that is useful, as I’ve always tried to do on the forum.
Thank you again for your openness, and I hope this message comes across in the constructive spirit in which it’s written.
All the best,
Francesco
Francis @LeadDeveloper2026-02-26 02:20:26.070ZHi,
Don't worry if your inquiries sound like criticism. We are honest about our mistakes. Therefore, we aren't afraid of the truth.
Anyways,
I think I mentioned what happened with those missing liveries and packages that weren't carried over to FS24.
Those hangars did not make it to FS24 because the artists were not interested in redoing them. I believe I posted somewhere the only hangars that will make it to fs24.Now, for the current hangars available that are missing some liveries, these planes can be added.
As for the Lufthansa with or without a mask, this is on the to-do list. I was confirmed that it can be done, but it wasn't noted accordingly. This means it will be done. I'm not sure if Tomorrowland will make it to FS24, but Brussels and Discover will. I thought D-AINC was a crossover, but it's on the list!Release date for these items we've spoken of? I predict before June of this year. Can I make it happen sooner? yes. How? I need to export and organize our hangar source files. I lost a long list of files due to a Discord hack a week ago. And I had to refresh all my hard drives. So... I will be visiting all the Microsoft aircraft.
So that's what's happening.
